Tajms Skver – Times Square Movie Poster, Yugoslavia, 1981

Budva is in what is now Montenegro, and in 1981 Zeta Film imported Times Square for the Yugoslavian film market. I don’t know when it opened or how well it did, or if it was subtitled in Serbian. All I know about it is that there was this poster, which replicates the UK poster. It’s a reproduction of the Cummins painting, losing a lot of detail and the artist’s signature, but at least it’s not a redrawing of it like the Belgian poster seems to have been. This was definitely a legitimate release. I have my doubts abut Belgium.

The Ziegfeld Theater was a Brutalist concrete cube in the middle of 54th Street. Inside, it was New York City's last great movie palace. Times Square played there for two weeks starting October 17, 1980. The Tuesday before that, the movie had its world premiere there, followed by a gala…
Robert Stigwood passed away January 4. If it hadn't been for him, Jacob Brackman and Allan Moyle would have likely continued to develop the screenplay for Times Square for another year or two. The result would have been a more coherent story, somewhat darker in tone, with more overt indicators…
